The Tracken is a GPS data display, mapper and logger for recreational activities. It started as a personal project, but has since moved into a user-based service for anyone in the world.
How does it work?
Capture your GPS data with a device that records it. This might be a watch, a phone, a GPS unit for windsurfing, or another similar device. Once you've recorded your data, upload your file to your personal account, display it on the map, submit your tracks to a friendly competition, and more.
What can the map show you?
The map display can show your GPS data in the form of point markers or track lines, overlayed on Google maps. There are filters and functions you can apply to your data to look at track information such as top speed, average speed, the distance covered, and more. Plugins can also be added to your account to expand functionality.
How much does it cost?
For individuals using standard functionality, nothing! Additional funcitonality can be applied to your account in the way of plugins. Fees may apply for some plugins, depepnding on the complexity and functionality. Fees may apply to become a member of an organisaiton, or to take part in an organisational event. These fees are entirely at the discretion of the organisation, The Tracken does not charge for this.
What about organisations?
Organisations can create umbrellas to manage their user base. With an organisation you can create events for members, apply fees for membership, 'crown' champions, and more.
Can I sell things here?
Yes, you can. We provide basic shop functionality for users to sell and search through. Fees are small, and help to pay for the cost of this place! It's a dollar per thousand dollars for the value of your item. For example, an item you sell for $1,399.00 is $2. A $750.00 item is $1. Items under $100.00 are processed for free. Currency based on Australian dollars.
And...
Please keep in mind that this site is wholey run by one individual. The Tracken is young and it needs time to grow. I make effort where I can to get it right, but at times I probably won't. Don't complain, you're not the only member. Provide feedback and suggestions instead. This can be awesome for everyone!
We use cookies and stuff behind the scenes to collect, save and do other things with data. We do this because... well that's what we do, we're The Tracken. We track!
What do we collect?
Whatever you put in! It's standard practice that apps and services use data you enter to do things with. It might be of interest, for example, to know how many people went running in the past 12 months. If we see that a lot of people are using this for running, then we might see that as a need to add further functionality for running tracks. We may also publish anonymous stats from time to time, for our users' interest. Somelike like the average distance a runner does in a session. That kind of thing.
What can I control?
You're data, it's accessibility and how it might be used by others (including us!). You can mark data as private, for instance, and only you will be able to see it, or users who you choose to share it with. Just remember if you are competing in a public event, and that event requires that your data be public to see, then you must allow this. Your results may not count otherwise!
What else might The Tracken collect?
At this stage, we don't know. It's early days and we aren't sure of what might be useful to the application and user base.
Oops, we coudln't find any stats! We'll look into it.
